Pleo was built to save people time and hassle when spending on behalf of their business or managing the company’s expenses. We’ve come a long way, and today we’re taking another giant step in that direction: we’re bringing forward a new, much simpler and more intuitive way of exporting expenses.

Prior to this change, admins and bookkeepers had to export expenses the traditional way – by selecting a date-range and exporting all expenses that match that single filter, no matter if they had already been exported or not.

This posed a few problems such as:

  • A propensity to error, for instance by exporting expenses with information that has changed without the exporting person knowing so.
  • An unclear overview, by grouping all expenses from day zero in one view with no way of clearly understanding if it has been exported or not.
  • No possibility of scaling performance as your company spends more and more, increasing the number of expenses.
More importantly, this export process didn’t allow for the future paradigm of real-time reconciliation which we’re going for at Pleo.

Thus, the time felt right to introduce a new way of exporting expenses.

In the new version, we’re making it easy to export all of the expenses that are “fine” – meaning, that have all the right information in place – while highlighting the few expenses that still needs more information. You can choose to export the expenses one by one, or to export them in larger batches based on whichever filter you apply. This way, you’re always on top of what you have exported and what you haven’t.

To give you this overview, we’ve introduced three lanes:

  • The ‘Unexported’ lane
  • The ‘Export queue’ lane
  • The ‘Exported’ lane
